The Robotics Institute Summer Scholars (RISS) Program is an intensive summer research program for talented undergraduate students. Summer Scholars have the opportunity to participate in state-of-the-art research projects, interact with a diverse research team, and to be mentored by leading faculty and technical staff. The program introduces aspiring students to dynamic research resources and methods, RI graduate education programs and research projects. The Summer Scholars program lasts 11 weeks.

Undergraduate students from both US and international institutions are invited to apply by completing an online application with attachments (including a resume, transcripts, recommendations, and personal statement) from to the RI Summer Scholars Program. Previous alumni have flagged this resource is helpful in writing strong statements of purpose: https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~harchol/gradschooltalk.pdf.  (Note:  This paper is focused on graduate school but has many relevant sections and strong advice.)
