Dr. Judith Hallinen Shares Broaden Participation Approaches
For more than half a decade, RISS has partnered with Carnegie Mellon’s Leonard Gelfand Center for Service Learning and Outreach to share robotics research with teachers, students, and visiting delegations.
Dr. Judith Hallinen, Assistant Vice Provost for Educational Outreach at Carnegie Mellon University, annually scaffolds opportunities to present research, teach, and showcase robotics innovation for the scholars. Judy shared her experience developing successful broadening participation strategies that share the innovative research at CMU with the community. She explained to the scholars that opening their work to a broader audience can help raise awareness, create impact, and lead to additional support of research because it shows a lasting and beneficial impact beyond the project. RISS extends the opportunity to conduct research at the world’s leading Robotics Institute to the global community.
