Kathryn Lampo
Kate is a rising junior at Columbia University studying mechanical engineering. Her academic interests are broadly centered around developing robotic systems for outer space, and she’s particularly interested in how robots can help us explore places far beyond where humans can currently travel. Kate’s previous work has included research on solar sails as well as projects focused on autonomous navigation systems, satellite communications, and developing astronaut tools for use in microgravity. This summer, she’ll be a part of Professor Zac Manchester’s Robotic Exploration Lab, where she’ll be working on a drone project supporting a larger smallsat wildlife tracking initiative. She looks forward to getting to know the cohort, and is thankful to everyone involved in RISS for facilitating such a wonderful opportunity!
