Nyomi Morris
Nyomi works to build a future where humans and robots collaborate seamlessly in real-world conditions. Her previous endeavors with human-robot communication and field robotics inspire her pursuit of an effortless partnership between humans and machines. Nyomi, a rising senior at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, has developed a precise perception for recognizing the needs of human beings and aims to apply that understanding to robotics. Rose-Hulman’s Mars Rover team introduced Nyomi to the challenges of field robotics, inspiring her to explore career opportunities in the area. This led her to participate in an undergraduate research experience with the University of Minnesota’s IRVLab exploring human pose estimation models for use in gestural communication with underwater autonomous vehicles. From there she found a passion for human-robot interaction. This passion brought her to Carnegie Mellon’s RISS 2023 program. During the RISS Program, Nyomi will collaborate with the Human and Robot Partners lab under Dr. Henny Admoni and be mentored by PhD student Michelle Zhao to explore communication of robot rewards during collaboration tasks. By building trustworthy, human-centered robotic systems, Nyomi hopes to foster a world where people can rely on technology as catalysts for their personal achievements.
