My name is Daria Radcenko, and I am currently enrolled in a Cognitive Science undergraduate program at the University of Osnabrück in Germany. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of my major, I became increasingly interested in the potential to leverage quantitative methods to understand biological processes and their potential to assist humans with approaching critical real-world problems, such as health care. In that context, I developed a special interest in the prevention and diagnosis of illnesses and diseases, as well as medical image processing. Although philosophy is not a primary interest of mine, the ethics of artificial intelligence-AI, especially in the medical field, is a topic I regard as highly important and capable of further development. Therefore, I am thrilled to be working on trustworthy AI in Dr. Artur Dubrawski’s Auton Lab this summer. Specifically, I will work alongside PhD student Jack Good on decision tree classification in the medical field, aiming to make AI more transparent and understandable to the general public. Apart from my academic interests, I enjoy reading and playing handball and various instruments. I am very excited to visit Pittsburgh this summer, and I am grateful for the work of Rachel, John, and all the volunteers who make RISS happen every year.
