Students/participants interested in learning about the field of Product Management/Development will get an opportunity to learn what exactly the field entails. Students will participate in a 75 minutes workshop (can alter the time if needed) and learn about the various aspects of Product Management. If you’ve ever wondered who built the digital experience on your favorite streaming service, or who created the most recent iPhone, a Product Manager (leading a team of people) is the answer. Product management is one of the faster-growing roles in today’s world. Product Managers work at well-known, and lesser-known, tech companies, and are responsible for the success of the products and services they oversee. Product Managers work with designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to design, market, and improve their products. Because so many Product Managers work with technology, many have backgrounds in engineering and computer science. In this session, participants will also get to ideate around topics selected by the facilitators and put into practice what they have learned toward product design and development ideas, getting hands-on experience in the role of a Product Manager.

Goals:

By the end of this workshop, students should have historical context on how autonomous vehicles have been developed. Students will also have a broad understanding of the modern AV perception stack, including detection, tracking, forecasting, and the ethics discussion behind AV.

Autonomous Vehicles are taking over our streets! Robotics Companies like Argo AI have already deployed driverless vehicles in Austin and Miami. Autonomous Vehicles are a promising application of robotics because they have the potential to make our roads safer. Have you ever wondered how these robots see the world? In this workshop, we’ll discuss the history of Autonomous Vehicles, and understand the technology that helps power these robots.

Format:

The workshop will consist of two parts, including both a talk and an interactive session. The talk will cover historical perspectives on autonomous vehicles and present high-level technical details of the autonomous vehicle perception stack. The interactive session will discuss the ethical decisions AV system designers must consider. We will walk through several scenarios presented by the MIT Moral Machine and ask participants to justify their choices. The goal of this interactive session is to convince students that building robots for the “real world” require considerations beyond just the technical specifications.
