Chase Dunaway
Hello! My name is Chase Dunaway. I am a rising senior at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology pursuing a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Mathematics. I am passionate about robotics, with a specialized interest in controls and navigation. I believe that the recent advancements in controls and reinforcement learning techniques will soon push robotics into an influential role in everyday life. For the past three years, I have conducted research on multi-agent systems, autonomous drones, and bio-inspired robotic platforms at New Mexico Tech. Moreover, since May of 2022, I have been an intern at Sandia National Laboratories, conducting research at Sandia’s Autonomy New Mexico Institute. This summer, I will be working under Dr. John Dolan in the Controls Lab, focusing on developing a controller that involves both nonlinear controls and machine learning to enable a drone to perform various tasks. I am honored to have been invited to participate in the 2024 cohort of summer scholars at the Robotics Institute and excited to work alongside the brilliant students and faculty on world-class robotics! I am grateful for the effort that Rachel Burcin, John Dolan, and all the students and volunteers have committed to make RISS what it is!
