Olivia Sobek
Hello! I’m Olivia Sobek, a rising junior studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, where I’m also pursuing a certificate in Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship. Pittsburgh has been my home throughout my life. In my free time, I enjoy painting, reading, playing music, and kayaking. I’m also a member of the Pitt marching band, playing the clarinet. I’m excited to be part of the RISS program, where I’ll be working on designing a robot mechanism under the guidance of Dr. Martinez and Dr. Temel. My background primarily involves CAD design, particularly in building and competing with battle bots through the Robotics and Automation Society. My interest in robotics began in high school when I participated in BotsIQ competitions. Now, I volunteer at these events and teach robotics to high school girls during their Girls Exploring Engineering Day event. Being part of RISS is a fantastic opportunity for me to deepen my knowledge and passion for robotics. I’m grateful to the RISS program, Dr. Temel, Dr. Martinez, and Rachel Burcin for this incredible opportunity.
