Ziven is a rising second-year electrical and computer engineering student at Northeastern University passionate about exploring the practical applications of robotics, machine learning, and neural networks in the real world. This summer, he feels fortunate to conduct research under Dr. Jean Oh’s guidance, focusing on vision and acoustic signal-based soft body/robot proprioception for dexterous soft hands. Current methods struggle to map positions of soft robotic devices, like fingers, due to data processing challenges and reliance on cameras. However, his research aims to revolutionize this process by using acoustic signals to precisely map the internal positioning of soft mechanisms. By enhancing positioning metrics and reducing the need for extensive data processing, soft robotics technology can advance. This immersive research experience will deepen Ziven’s understanding of the subject and prepare him for graduate school. Research fuels Ziven’s passion, allowing him to contribute to technological advancements that shape our world. Leveraging the technical knowledge gained from the RISS program, he’s determined to propel himself towards impactful endeavors. Ziven’s ultimate goal is to empower individuals through technology and foster innovation that paves the way for a brighter future. He’s grateful to his sponsors and the RISS staff for their unwavering support in pursuing this exciting opportunity.
