Creating Opportunities for Applied Robotics & AI Research with Industry
Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute Summer Scholar’s Program partnered with a leading Indian robotics & AI company, the Hi-Tech Robotic Systemz (THRSL), to connect RISS undergraduate research internships with THRSL’s applied research internship opportunities. THRSL (led by CMU RI alumnus Mr. Anuj Kapuria) and CMU’s Robotics Institute have collaborated for more than a decade on research and education. Mr. Het Shah, an undergraduate student from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur was the first student to intern with THRSL and then join the RISS program at CMU.
While at THRSL, Het worked with a team creating ADAS solutions for commercial vehicles. Het worked on creating HD vector maps using GSM maps and 3D lidar data. Het’s research at CMU was led by Dr. John M. Dolan in the area of autonomous vehicles. Het’s CMU project was entitled: Motion Planning for Urban Driving Including Evasive Maneuvers Using Iterative LQR.
We extend thanks and appreciation to the THRSL team for their commitment to investing in the next generation of robotics talent.
